Experience

Working with Sierra

You might notice my portfolio features a lot of feathers, fur, and wide-open spaces alongside human faces. Spending time tracking and photographing wildlife across wetlands and trails has shaped exactly how I approach lifestyle and portrait photography. It's taught me the ultimate art of patience. I never rush a session; instead, I know how to sit back and wait for the genuine smiles, the unscripted laughs, and the quiet moments in between.

My time spent photographing wildlife in the Dayton, OH area and across the country also taught me how to anticipate a split-second moment. When you are waiting for a bird to take flight, you have a fraction of a second to catch the action. I bring that exact same hyper-focus to your sessions, capturing a fleeting glance, a quick burst of laughter, or a subtle, loving connection before it passes.

Because my roots are firmly planted in the outdoors, I have spent years studying the nuances of natural light. I don’t rely on heavy studio setups or artificial flashes. Instead, my expertise is grounded in chasing the "golden hour," understanding how light dramatically shifts and moves through the trees, and finding the most flattering, organic glow for your portraits. I know how to work with the sun, the shadows, and the environment to create images that feel warm, timeless, and completely authentic.

Whether we are shooting a cozy family session in a local park or exploring a scenic trail for an engagement, I am entirely at home in the elements and know how to keep your session relaxed, fun, and completely adventurous.

FAQ

01. What happens if the weather doesn't cooperate on the day of our session?

Since we are working entirely with natural light and the great outdoors, mother nature occasionally has her own plans! I keep a close eye on the forecast leading up to our day. If it’s just a light sprinkle or overcast skies, we can absolutely still shoot; cloudy days actually create beautiful, soft, and flattering light. However, if there is heavy rain, extreme wind, or unsafe conditions, we will absolutely reschedule for the next available clear day at no extra cost to you.

02. What is the best time of day for an outdoor photo shoot?

To get that gorgeous, warm, and glowing light you see in my portfolio, I highly recommend scheduling our session during "golden hour." This is the hour just after sunrise or the hour right before sunset when the sun is low on the horizon, creating soft shadows and a beautiful, organic warmth. If we need to shoot mid-day, don't worry—I know how to utilize tree canopies and shaded areas to ensure your photos still look flawless.

03. What should we wear for an outdoor or nature-based session?

The goal is to complement the natural environment rather than compete with it. I recommend choosing earth tones, neutrals, or muted colors (like greens, rust, creams, mustard, or deep blues) that look beautiful against trees, fields, and water. It’s best to avoid neon colors, large graphic tees, or matching exactly in the same color. Most importantly, wear something you feel confident in, and make sure your footwear is comfortable enough for a little bit of walking or trail exploration!

04. I’m worried we will feel awkward or won't know how to pose out in the open. How do you handle this?

This is completely normal! I’ll give you gentle direction, fun prompts, and space to interact naturally. Think of it less like a rigid photo shoot and more like a relaxed walk through nature where I happen to have a camera.
